Driving operational excellence, on-time delivery, and scalable quality in modular laser welding systems

Philosophy in Departmental Role

“In precision manufacturing, production is the moment of truth: design intent becomes a dependable machine on a customer’s floor. My philosophy is to run production like a disciplined, data-driven service to the market—synchronizing engineering, supply chain, and quality so every laser welding system leaving Maintal is safe, compliant, and production-ready. I use lean manufacturing, OEE-based performance management, and standardized work to compress lead times without compromising reliability. Because Sigma’s portfolio spans fiber-laser systems and lamp-pumped (pulsed) laser systems, plus modular platforms and smart software, our factory model must be equally modular: cells that can flex from one-off special purpose machines to repeatable series builds. We design for manufacturability early, validate processes with PFMEA/Control Plans, and build quality into each station—not at the end with inspection. The result is predictable takt, clean handovers to commissioning, and equipment that performs from day one at the customer site. Above all, production exists to protect Sigma’s promise: innovation, precision, reliability—delivered at scale.”

Biography

Production Manager at Sigma Laser GmbH

Quality is not inspected into a laser welding machine—it’s built in, station by station. Our job in production is to make excellence repeatable.

Academic Background

M.Sc., Production Engineering & Management — Technische Universität München (TUM)
B.Eng., Mechanical Engineering — Technische Universität Darmstadt
Lean Six Sigma Black Belt — TÜV SÜD Academy (certified program)
Laser Safety Officer (EN/IEC 60825-1) Certificate — TÜV Rheinland Academy
ISO 9001:2015 Internal Auditor — DGQ (Deutsche Gesellschaft für Qualität)
EU Machinery Directive (2006/42/EC) Conformity & CE Marking — TÜV SÜD Training

Technical Quad (Core Strengths)

  • Laser Systems Industrialization: DFM/DFA, PFMEA/Control Plan, run@rate; smooth ramp from prototype to series for fiber and pulsed systems.
  • Modular Assembly & Motion Integration: Standardized build of 4-axis machines; integration of Sigomatic/Sigomatic Pro teach-in, path control, and G-code verification.
  • Metallurgy-Aware Process Readiness: Pre-shipment weld validations on critical alloys using SPT pulse modulation for crack-resistant joints.
  • Supplier Development & Compliance: APQP/PPAP where applicable, ISO 9001 systems, EN/IEC 60825-1, CE conformity, EHS & laser safety.

Technical Experience

  • Mixed-Model Flow for Modular Builds: Implemented kitting + standardized work across variant families (e.g., stationary Sidanus Fibre and mobile Sirius Fibre) reducing changeover by 42% and WIP by 31%.
  • First-Pass Acceptance at FAT: Introduced layered process audits and digital checklists for motion, optics, and safety circuits; improved FAT first-pass yield from 88% → 97% within 9 months.
  • SPT-Enabled Material Trials: Coordinated pre-delivery weld trials for titanium and stainless assemblies, cutting customer ramp-up time by ~25% on average.
  • Accessory & Options Scale-up: Standardized installation for accessories (e.g., motorized rotary, swing optics, Z/Y axes, wire feeder) to a takt-aligned options station; reduced final-assembly touch time by 18%.
  • Digital Build Records: Integrated ERP/MES travelers with laser parameter archives and motion logs (Sigomatic/Pro), enabling full traceability from subassembly to SAT sign-off.
